Exotic Medicine and Surgery

Rabbits
Rabbits can suffer from a variety of different diseases and health conditions, including hairballs, parasites, overgrown teeth, and cancer. They're also known to hide any signs of illness or pain, so it's difficult to tell if your rabbit is suffering.

Below are some signs that we want pet owners to be aware of if they notice this behavior:
• Has an extremely high or low temperature
• Has any discharge from the eyes or nose
• Has runny stool or a gurgling, noisy stomach
• Begins drooling, sneezing, or excessively scratching at the ears
• Starts developing bald patches in their fur
• Stops eating and shows a dramatic change in behavior

We also highly recommend getting your rabbit spayed or neutered. This won't change your rabbit's behavior and it can benefit their overall health by preventing reduced aggression, destructive chewing, biting, and more.

If you have any other questions about how to best care for your rabbit, just let us know and we'll be happy to help with diet, grooming, and other necessities.
Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, and Hamsters
Even though they're small, they still need as much care and attention as your larger pets. Their teeth can become overgrown and can cause health problems, so we can provide them with dental trimming and recommend appropriate chew toys that can help keep their teeth worn down.

Let us know if your small pet stops eating, loses weight, or is displaying abnormal behavior.

Ferrets
Common health problems that ferrets experience are gastrointestinal disease, parasites, and cancer. Because ferrets are naturally inquisitive, they can frequently ingest objects that they shouldn't, which can cause problems with kidneys, livers, and pancreas. We recommend bringing them in for regular blood tests just to determine these issues.

Ferrets can also benefit from receiving vaccinations and monthly preventives. We also recommend that your ferret is spayed or neutered since there are multiple benefits like reduced body odor, reduced aggressive behavior, and more.

Hair loss, vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite are all signs that your ferret may be experiencing illness or pain. Please contact us right away if you're noticing any abnormal or unusual behavior.
